Hourly Graduate Student Workers

All employees who hold the title of student worker must be compensated by an hourly wage at least equal to the state minimum wage of $15.00 (effective July 1, 2023). Departments have the discretion, consistent with the duties of the position, to compensate a student worker above $15.00 an hour. Notwithstanding that discretion, graduate student workers performing duties similar to those of a Graduate Assistant (GA) must be compensated at an hourly wage similar in amount to that of the GA (at least $20.56 an hour). Departments can request an opinion from the Associate Dean of the Graduate School as to whether graduate student worker duties are consistent with those of a GA.

Graduate Assistants include: Administrative Assistants, Fellows, Graders, Peaceworker Assistants, Research Assistants, Residential Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Trainees.

Full-time Graduate Assistant
Has a twenty (20) hour per week commitment to the department supporting the assistantship.
Part-time Graduate Assistant
Has a ten (10) hour per week commitment to the department supporting the assistantship.
