Developing the whole student not just the “scholar” earning a degree – which means an individual actively engaged in the scholarly community and adept at navigating key activities in the field such as moving the field to a greater degree of advancement; effective communication with peers; broadly disseminating the work in oral and written platform; helping non-specialists appreciate the importance of the work; and gaining recognition as a valued member of the greater disciplinary network.
